In the January 2007 issue of Power Electronics Technology magazine, an article appeared that describes a step-by-step procedure for the design of gate-drive transformers. It optimizes the mechanical, thermal and electrical parameters of the transformer, leading finally to the bill of materials. A 5 W reference design operating at 300 kHz uses Ferroxcube core E5.3/2.7/2-3F3 and bobbin CPHS-E5.3/2-1S-6P-Z.
